The Cretan stick (katsuna) is an integral part of the Cretans. The shepherds constantly keep a kennel to help them walk and especially to climb up the mountain areas where their animals grazing. Valued use of the cat is also to clean their paths but also to trap their animals that want to escape them, while in war years it was also a weapon against the enemy.
Even today, the kosouna is used by many shepherds and mainly elderly people, while at the same time symbolizes Cretan pride and tradition.
